Observation Narrative
Diverse rocky bar on north bank of Maury River at Goshen Pass. Stand sampled to capture vegetation containing Andropogon gerardii and Spartina pectinata, as well as native forbs and tree seedlings. Although exotic species are ubiquitous in these habitats, the richness and cover of exotics were not appreciated until the central portion of the stand was investigated. Plot could have been placed 3-5 m farther inland, which would have maximized Andropogon cover and reduced exotic component, but this sample probably more accurately characterizes prevailing vegetation. Despite exotics this rocky shore supports some of the more extensive, diverse, and native-rich herbaceous-dominated vegetation in the scour area of Goshen Pass. This shore is likely inundated most years during spring floods. Some species may have been missed and the cover of several underestimated.
